Project Overview
Stadeli Boring & Tunneling successfully completed a 326-foot installation of 36-inch steel casing beneath Interstate 5 in Albany, Oregon using the jack-and-bore method. The project included the installation of a 24-inch carrier pipe within the casing while maintaining strict grade and alignment requirements for the utility crossing.
Project Challenges
This crossing presented demanding ground conditions, including flowing groundwater and dense cobble formations at depth. These conditions required continuous monitoring and precise steering to maintain the engineered line and grade throughout the bore.
Our Solution
To meet the project’s accuracy requirements, our team utilized the On Target Steering (OTS) Guidance System, allowing real-time steering corrections during casing installation. By combining experienced operators with advanced steering technology, we successfully navigated the challenging subsurface conditions and delivered the casing within the project’s design tolerances.
To minimize impacts and maintain the project schedule, our crews worked 24 hours a day, seven days a week, completing the casing installation in just 8 days.
