This project involved the installation of 140 feet of 54-inch diameter steel casing for a gravity sewer line, Located in Bend Oregon. While the project was initially planned as a solid rock bore underneath BNSF rail tracks, we encountered inconsistent soil conditions shortly after beginning.
Stadeli worked closely with the owner to develop an effective solution, which included outsourcing permeation grouting to stabilize the ground above the bore for the BNSF crossing. Utilizing a Robbins rock cutting head and our team of skilled workers, we successfully adapted to these changing on-site challenges.
The contract required tolerances of one foot horizontal and six inches vertical. The tolerances were very tight and were dictated by BNSF, the owner of the right-of-way where the bore was being constructed. In developing the revised plan to grout the non-consolidated material within the bore the tolerances were not adjusted. Stadeli Boring and Tunneling were able to complete the bore and stay within the tolerances stated in the contract.
